Creative Reflections: Weekly Edition - Issue #29

Read on Website

Hey there!

Week 27 of 2025 is over, and the start of Week 28 is here.

I found Week 27 challenging, but ultimately invigorating. I’ve been in a bit of a groove and managed to get a lot done creatively. A lot of that success is the result of learning how to prioritize my tasks.

I know, I know.

I’ve talked to death about the importance of prioritization. Hell, I plan to write an essay on why prioritization is essential for creatives who don’t have a lot of time to spare. In the pursuit of excellence, in becoming a master of many, a jack of all trades, you have to make choices that work in tandem with your goals.

Prioritization can help with that, just as it did for me.

On Writing

I’ve written two nonfiction essays, which you can read here:

However, I’ve really neglected my fiction writing. Ever since I started writing two essays per week, that has hindered my fiction writing. So, for another week, I’m going to try to make some progress, and if I don’t, I will need to cut back on the essays I write per week.

The goal for Week 28 is to continue to write two essays about creativity, and to write at least 1,000 words for a short story.

On Design

I created two design pieces this week, as can be seen here:

The goal for Week 28 is to create two more design pieces.

On Illustration

I have nothing to show off here because my illustration skills are still lacking.

However, I can say with pride that I did sketch, even if it was not good. That’s how we start, right? We have to start somewhere. And even though my illustrative skills are terrible, I’m excited to see my growth in the weeks to come.

The goal for Week 28 is to sketch for at least 15 minutes every day.

Inspiration and Recommendation

“Why Great Artists Steal” | How to Be a Better Human, a TED Podcast

A great interview with Austin Kleon on how to remain inspired and become a better audience. I plan to read Austin Kleon’s serious books about art and thought this video is a great introduction to his work.

Why You’re Not Growing as a Graphic Designer (Beginners)

A great reminder for newbie designers (such as myself) on what graphic design is all about. Graphic design is not just about making art or making something look good. It’s about communicating visually.

Cambridge Professor: Why All Writing Sounds the Same Now

A remarkable interview with Robert Macfarlane about making your writing sound like you. I found this interview really inspiring for all creatives to take some inspiration from.
